Overview

A leave of absence is approved unpaid time off, with the exception of maternity leave, which is a paid leave of absence. Employees must notify the Rollins Leave of Absence Specialist at (404) 888-2714 as soon as possible, but no later than three days (3) from the date of the FMLA-qualifying event if they anticipate they will be off work for more than ten (10) days due to a Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) qualifying reason. The LOA Specialist will advise the employee of their FMLA rights and responsibilities, as well as answer questions regarding Non-FMLA Leave, short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD), if applicable.

The types of leaves of absence are:

  1. Medical FMLA and Non-FMLA
  2. Military Caregiver FMLA and Non-FMLA
  3. Personal FMLA and Non-FMLA
  4. Intermittent or Reduced Schedule FMLA
  5. Workers’ Compensation FMLA and Non-FMLA
  • Leaves of Absence are FMLA or Non-FMLA, based on the employee’s length of employment and the reason for the leave.

  • The process for placing an employee on Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave begins the first day the employee is off work for a qualifying reason such as the birth of a child, to care for an immediate family member (employee’s spouse, child or parent) who has a serious health condition, for an employee’s own serious health conditions, etc.
  • If the leave was not anticipated and will extend beyond 5 workdays, the manager should consult with the Leave of Absence Specialist who will assist them in obtaining the required paperwork to administratively place the employee on a leave of absence and will contact the employee to notify them of their FMLA rights and responsibilities.
  • All leaves of absence, except those taken due to the employee giving birth, are unpaid.
